A native of South Bend, Washington, Ensign George Franklin Heuston of the United States Merchant Marines received his art education under Hawthorne, Bridgman and Karl Anderson. Heuston joined the U. S. military upon the onset of World War II. Despite his near death experience after being torpedoed in the Atlantic Ocean and spending eight days on a lifeboat, Heuston continued his craft.
