Merrill, who first came to the Milwaukee in 1836. Merrill was both a pioneer industrialist and an agriculturist, who was also a member of the Old Pioneer Club and the Old Settlers Club of Milwaukee. Merrill Hall on the Milwaukee Downer College campus is named in honor of William and his wife Elizabeth. In 1973, the building was declared a landmark. The Communication
