Soldiers GIs Germany Wartime XGS3 and the Church of AssumptionThis is an original 1963 halftone print of soldiers pulling a sofa to their quarters, and a man pulling jerrycans. Brodie wrote on the subject, "During one of the long lulls, GIs moved a sofa down a street to make their quarters comfortable. One pulled 'jerricans' on a civilian cart. In a backyard a GI said to me, 'See that car in the garage?' It was a trim little sedan. 'I put sand in its tank; it's a German car.' In another village, I heard a
