she was carved of black marbled stone by Samwillie Mikpegak (1922-2002)

Since finding a wonderful set of 19th c

I'd guess these date to the 1940s or so but have not found any others like them

I'm not quite sure if the bird was inlaid or just incised very finely and then painted/stained a slightly stronger red--but of it feels now like this happy surprise

I think it's a pretty striking object to have around
