I love the hand-painted faces and brass buttoned blue jackets on these vintage wooden sea captain nesting dolls--plus the short white pant legs and black boots peeking out below those jackets

and also large enough to make a nice sculptural object for the wall

nicely matted (the cream matte appears to be linen or silk) and in a simple black metal frame with a hook on the back for hanging

They are hand numbered in pencil at top center (this one is 10; the highest number of them is 43, so there were once a whole lot of these). My guess is that they were a (well done) art design school exercise, but at some point, also in pencil, prices ranging from 60 (. 60) to 1. 75 were added at top right, reiterated with hand
