The regiment was originally raised by Colonel James Abercrombie as the 52nd Regiment of Foot in 1755 for service in the Seven Years' War
The saber is in fair to good condition and still bears traces of the gilt inlay on the blade of scrolls of leaves and the Royal Cypher of King George III
but that was added just before it was imported into the United States many years ago
