I just love the linear patterns and texture created by the painstakingly cut and laid matchsticks

had a lot of knowledge about early blocks

and the whole think is sturdy and stable

so needs to lean against something in order to stand upright with the exposed iron end tipped up but otherwise can just be set somewhere and would make a pretty great paper weight

bundled up in scarf and hat and with hands buried in pockets

I think this is an old bocce boules ball, solid steel or iron with incised radial lines and a whitish gray surface. Too satisfying to not bring home with me. 2 7 8" in diameter; weighs 1 lb. 12 oz.. Perfectly aged condition, very early 20th c I believe.
