but this is the first pull toy turtle I've come across and it's a pretty fun one
I bought this one at a very good antiques show in Pennsylvania
a fictional stereotype characterized by pale complexions and "moss hair" and a convoluted narrative characterizing them both as chaste but also as former harem slaves
but what wonderful carving of those eyes and mouth and nostrils of the nose and especially what I take as ears laying flat to the sides
and lovely here pieced together with squares of old shirting fabric to form checkerboards
Perfectly Minimal Three Peaches in Basket 19th Century Theorem on Velvet in Period Frame red leather but this is the firstAbout as minimalist a theorem painting as one might find, which is much of why I love it, just a pyramid of three peaches in a black and brown basket. With just enough tonal variation on the peaches, from gold to orange peach, to given them form, and an excellent graphicness to the patterning on the basket. C. 1830s 40s I believe, on velvet, under glass in a roughly period gold gessoed wooden frame. 11 9 16" x 9 9 16" framed. All in good antique
