The steel shell is marked with a large S and heat lot stamped 383A dating manufacture in about October 1944

The pommel is Waffenamt marked and the blade ricasso is also marked with German three letter code 41 fze indicating 1941 manufacture by the well-known maker F

The minor adaptations needed on the bombsight itself produced what the Army referred to as the M-4 model
