I happened upon this one in an antiques store in Vermont the other day and it immediately felt both special and familiar

Northern European--I have had a couple similar with dome tops

4 7/8 x 1 1/8 x 1 1/8 and in very good condition

#1, White on Red Painted (Heavy) Iron Sign with Great Surface worn leather box though I know this oneA big white "1" against a gorgeous red painted ground on iron what more could one want? Very iconic feeling, and just a perfect thing. 15" x 13 5 8", heavy, beautifully aged. General rusting and some paint loss around the edges, all to the good. It appears that the reverse side once bore a white 1 too, but the white paint is pretty much gone, so just a shadow of it remains. With two holes at top for hanging.
