and because I love the tall straight letters in the word itself

but the donkey itself--printed on a sort of light weight fabric with a bit of a sheen--is in pretty good shape and I think the graphics are pretty terrific

My favorite Brimfield find for sure, and definitely one of my top finds ever and how wonderful that they have remained a couple over all of these many years. With their flat backs it seems quite possible they once decorated something else, but I'm not certain; I do believe 19th century American, and I think most likely New England or Pennsylvania. I find their faces just marvelous a bit stoic but whimsical too, made more so the latter as
