like a colorful modernist tower--found the other day at a little antique shop in Rhode Island

I think the color on these--yellow on one side and red on the other

but I would say "God" is in the details

The text details 76 exterior and 53 interior muscles of the body corresponding to numbers on the beautifully rendered bodies

And with a good amount of wear around the perimeter, suggesting a good lot of handling, and the birds facing in every direction, I might guess it served a functional purpose, perhaps as a lid (or as a print block?) I am not sure. The wood is old, pine I believe, and the manner of the hand carving makes it feel like my favorite sort of drawing. Highly
