Instituted on 16 February 1837. (1887 1918 issue). Constructed of silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse with a finely detailed depicting of St. Michael trampling the devil and clutching a shield inscribed QUIS UT DEUS (WHO IS LIKE GOD), overlaid on a ribbed Cross Patte, the reverse with a central inscription of VIRTUTI (VIRTUE), within
